Modern Tropical Living
I was asked to make a design for an existing building in a nearby province. It will be a weekend retreat house for the officers of a company and they wanted it to really be an escape from the hurly burly and the stiffness of city living.
This is my take on modern Filipino interiors. Sliding Capiz windows bring in the nostalgia of old Hispanic Philippines and the warmth of the woods laid on the floor and ceiling give the feeling of calm and serenity. A whimsical mural of stylized foliage gives the feeling of lightness and brings in the greens while traditional continental furniture pieces with a touch of Philippine materials juxtaposed with modern sleek furniture maintains the opulence and richness of the living space.
Being modern does not mean forgetting the past. It is better to always pick out the best of what is already there and merge it to what we now have.
