maximizing small spaces

spacious abodes are one of the many luxuries that most of us would want to have. but having a small flat or house doesn't necessarily mean we can't have the lifestyle we like. here are some tips of how to maximize limited space to get the most style and comfort.

choose the right furniture

one big mistake is to cram a lot undersized furniture into a small space thinking they'd get the most out of their space by cluttering it with several small furniture. i tell you, you need not be happy with 'hobbit-type' furniture in a compact space.

take time to think and decide about what you really want to do in a certain space. you can make a small space feel more spacious by choosing a few large (or even standard-sized) and bold furniture pieces and make sure they are all proportioned to each other. just make sure you avoid loud and big patterns or chunky furniture such as sofas with overstuffed arms. stick to slim and streamlined design to save on space without sacrificing comfort.

another way to maximize space is to choose the right furniture. one can opt for multi-function furniture to be able to fit in more activities in an area. sofas with under-storage can help reduce clutter. coffee tables with storage can be a gameboard table, an accent table and a place to put tea and snacks when entertaining guests.

choose the right color

colors are very misunderstood. a common misconception is that dark colors make a room feel small. in fact, dark colors can give more depth to a room when used correctly with other colors to control contrast.

you can make a room more romantic and dramatic by making sure that contrast is very low. one can use a dark color for the ceiling and use on the wall a shade two or three shades lighter than the ceiling so the ceiling will appear higher while maintaining a low contrast level.
